Spring is back, bringing with it the return of our traditional Dev Updates, which you’ve clearly missed, and a fresh wave of improvements across the Jami ecosystem!

💪
Our team has been hard at work fixing bugs, refining the user experience, and laying the groundwork for exciting new features.

Here's a look at what’s been cooking lately across the different platforms.

🛠️ Core

Several important improvements are in progress at the core level. Notably, the WhisperTranscript plugin is being actively enhanced to improve its performance and add new functionalities. This work is part of a broader push to provide more accessibility features and tools for conversation analysis.

We've also set up a Windows development environment tailored for handling crash reports more efficiently. This should streamline debugging and improve the overall stability of Jami on Windows platforms.

Additionally, the reliability of read receipts has been improved, helping ensure messages are properly tracked across all devices.

💻 Desktop

On the desktop side, we’ve addressed various build issues on Linux and Windows (daemon side) to smooth the development and release process.

We’re also testing a redesigned profile creation wizard aimed at simplifying onboarding for new users. Although it has not yet been merged, initial results are promising.

Screen sharing previews, which were previously problematic on some platforms, have now been fixed for both Windows and Linux X11, ensuring a smoother collaboration experience.

📱 Android

On Android, we’ve tackled some persistent bugs related to avatar display with two key fixes that restore proper rendering across various devices.

Alongside that, a few miscellaneous bug fixes have been rolled out to keep things running smoothly.

Location sharing improvements are also in the pipeline, with more work to come in the following weeks.

🍏 iOS

On iOS, location sharing is likewise undergoing refinement to align with the Android experience.

  • A series of updates are also in progress to debug and polish the UI, with ongoing discussions around this issue.
  • We’ve already fixed the display name for linked accounts and updated the conversation view for better readability and usability.
  • Support for Swarm Calls, now group calls, on iOS is currently in development as well, paving the way for more seamless multi-device communication.

As always, thank you for your support and your contributions. Whether you're testing the latest builds, reporting bugs, or just spreading the word, your involvement makes a difference. ❤️
